The Spring Racing Carnival is here and aside from placing bets and dressing up for a fabulous day at the races – a girl’s got to eat. Here is my guide to restaurants around racecourses, covering the best restaurants to casually dine pre-raceday or for a pit stop post races. What more could you want?

Caulfield Racecourse
Monterey’s Seafood Restaurant

Head to Monterey’s Seafood Restaurant for American inspired seafood and vino in Prahran, the perfect match for a celebration around the Spring Racing Carnival. Enjoy sipping on wine and cocktails while eating freshly shucked oysters.
The menu by Daniel Salcedo (ex-Rockpool Group, Harley House) is centred on seafood, and features delights like freshly shucked oysters, ceviche and charcoal-grilled octopus, but the hero dish is the lobster roll – served simply with butter and chives, or mayo and celery.

American inspired seafood and vino have arrived in Prahran and this is the perfect hangout for a Spring Racing Carnival celebration!

For country racing you can’t beat Yarra Valley. Seven minutes from the Yarra Valley Racecourse is Zonzo Estate; a restaurant that serves authentic Italian food, matched with wines from their vineyard. This place is a stunning hangout, perfect for wining and dining with a group of friends.

Graze on an Antipasti plate with a classic selection of cured meats, imported Italian cheeses, Cerignola olives, pickled onions and grilled vegetables followed by a sharing menu that will tantalise the taste buds.

Stop by Zonzo for a beautiful glass of wine and bite to eat on your way out to the Yarra Valley races.

Flemington Racecourse

The Station Hotel

After a perfect day out at Flemington racecourse, you really can’t go past The Station Hotel. This upscale bistro is serving mouth-watering pub nibbles, ice cold beers and the cosy pub setting is pretty much made for kicking back after a day of race celebrations, not to mention the buzzing beer garden.

The kitchen is serving some of the most freshly shucked oysters and perfectly prepared steaks in Melbourne, not to mention the suckling pig with cider jus too. And if you’re a schnitzel fan, the pork schnitzel here is one of the finest in the state, topped with fior di latte, serrano, coleslaw, pine nuts and a light mustard dressing.

Moonee Valley Racecourse
Ascot Food Store

After a hearty meal or caffeine hit before a day at the races? Look no further than the always buzzing Ascot Food Store.
At the Food Store, the focus is on quality. They support local suppliers and source the best biodynamic produce to make up their mouth watering menu. Dishes include seafood favourites soft shell crab and ocean trout, as well as amazing duck eggs and pork belly.

And for a quick sugar hit to have you set for the track, don’t go past the homemade, syringe-spiked doughnuts that come in flavours including chocolate brownie, peanut parfait, salted caramel malt sugar, chocolate and almond soil. You’re welcome!
